Michael Brown is From Milton, MA.
08 Year
He wanted to get his Eagle Scout badge and his project was "Get the Lead out of Fishing"  He did quite a bit of research on his project and has accomplished many great things.  He did receive his Eagle Scout this past year and along with that he was National Boy Scout winner in the Field and Stream Heroes of Conservation program in September.
He was featured in an article in the December/January issue of Field and Stream Magazine.
President’s Environmental Youth Award.  He is the DEP Region One winner.  He will be one of ten individuals who will be presented with this award by the President in Washington during the April school vacation.
His “Get the Lead Out of Fishing” project has been chosen for the Volvo Adventure Award.  He will represent the United States at this United Nations Environmental Program in Gothenburg Sweden on May 9 – 14.  This trip will also include 4 other members of St Agatha Troop 5 Milton who helped out with the project.
About a dozen other teams from around the world will compete for a grand prize of $10,000, a second prize of $6000 or a third prize of $4000 which the winning team can use to continue the project.  The team will present their project before a panel of international judges while in Sweden.  They will also have an opportunity to tour the area and participate in activities with other teens from around the world.
Just goes to show how far a great Eagle project can take you – the State House, Washington DC to meet the President and now onto Sweden
What's new this your?  09 Year
Mike is actually receiving a $10,000 grant from SeaWorld to continue his project (May 1).  Most of this will go to creating Public Service Announcements encouraging people to make responsible (non-lead) choices when they shop for fishing tackle.  He came to realize that he could not see every angler at every fishing derby, nor could he stand next to every person while they were buying weights.  But he could make them aware of the problem and teach them to buy responsibly.  He is up for a much larger grant from another organization in New York – again to put toward creating PSAs. We’ll see what happens with that.  Keep up with Mike’s on his  website at (www.replacelead.com)

Great Job Michael we are proud of you

Jacob Wall is from Jacksonville, OR.

Jacob is 13 years old and has always wanted to fish.  He and his Dad go to all the tournaments they can find every year.  Jacob
and his Dad I fished a 2 day team tournament at Lake Shasta in California. They finished 1st by over 2 lbs. beating a field of 8 boats of adults. Jacob did great not only locating fish but finding a successful pattern to fish them. It was his first 1st place finish in an adult tournament. Not bad for a 13 year old.

Jacob competed last weekend at the BASS Jr. state qualifier and the Casting Kids state championship. He placed third in the fishing tournament and won the casting event again this year. He will be competing in the divisional casting May 17th in Cour d'Alene, ID.

New Update:
Jacob finished 2nd in the Western Division  and 11th in the nation in his age group at the National Guard Junior Worlds. We want to thank you so much for your sponsorship. He used the dropshot weights to catch his fish. He really likes them! He'll be fishing in Sept. for the 2009 BASS Oregon State qualifier
.

We are Proud of you Jacob.  Keep it Up
